Seeking ambitious and hard-working college-bound students who currently lack access to the technology needed to achieve their potential.  Up to six (6) students will be selected.

Upon successful completion of my Assist2Admit program, during the spring of their senior year, students will be GRANTED the technology to take with them to college.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of my professional goals has been to expand my pro bono outreach efforts.  Specifically, I want to help students who need laptops, access to WiFi, as well as guidance through the college process.

Laptop that will be provided to Assist2Admit students.

For Assist2Admit students who lack access to WiFi at home, Verizon hotspots will be provided with metered prepaid 4G LTE data until they complete the Assist2Admit college admissions process.

Vivian Fung College Prep will help Assist2Admit students prepare for the college admissions process for the University of California, or equivalent (up to four essays will be reviewed).

REQUEST FOR NOMINATIONS

I am seeking nominations from teachers, employers, coaches, mentors for one or more students who you believe would benefit from the technology as well as the consulting.  For your nomination, please provide a brief explanation (100-200 words) of why you think your candidate should receive the award.
 
Through this program, I am looking for two juniors (Class of 2022), two sophomores (Class of 2023) and two freshmen (Class of 2024). 
Nomination deadline was JANUARY 31, 2021.  The nomination period has closed.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Once the nomination is received, I will contact each student and offer them the chance to complete an application that includes:

A personal statement (200-500 words) explaining their situation, including:

• how their lack of access to technology has challenged them,
• what their education and career goals are, and
• how guidance through the college admissions process would help them achieve their goals.

A personal character reference.  The reference can be any adult who knows the student well, except a parent or the original nominator.  The reference will be asked to write a letter of recommendation on behalf of the student.  If a written statement is a hardship, the reference may request a telephone call to discuss the candidate in lieu of the written statement.
Application deadline was February 28, 2021.  The application period has closed.

SELECTION PROCESS

Depending on the number of applications received,  a telephone interview may be required to select the winners of Assist2Admit.  Students will be evaluated on the following:

1. Need.  Priority will be given to students demonstrating need for the technology (both laptops and access to WiFi).
2. Goals.  Priority will be given to first generation aspiring college students who have the motivation and ambition to make the most of the resources provided through the program.
3. Character. Priority will be given to students who demonstrate responsibility and maturity.
